SUSTAINABLE BUILDING: SHAPE SHIFTING ZERO-ENERGY HOUSE THAT TRANSFROMS IN TUNE WITH THE WEATHER

Sustainable architecture is no doubt an applicable architectural solution to the world right now. It is a design approach that is effective in creating spaces that are not just meant to be inhabited but also help the users to enjoy their spaces. There are lots of new building designs based on sustainable architecture principles but the shape shifting, zero-energy house in above picture which transforms itself in tune with the weather is one in a million kind of sustainable building.

The building on hot day allows natural cooling because instead of cranking up the air conditioning, it transforms itself, its skin and shell is made to move out to wrap around the entire house thus shading everything so that the building can be cooled.

The building has a sensor that can sense coldness or hotness. During cold days, it will close its layers (Screen and Shell) to keep the inside heat from being lost into the surrounding and when you want more light in the building, you have two options; you can open up the screen or the shell. There are also solar panels that are used to power the building layers.

TOP 5 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD DATE AN ARCHITECT.

Have you ever think of dating an architect or being loved by someone who is extremely passionate about architecture?

Have you ever imagined if your new friend or husband that is an architect will ever have quality relationship with you? Then this post is for you. I had been able to put together top 5 reasons why I think you can go ahead and date an architect or even marry one.

Here are my reasons;

When you embark on a new journey, you can be rest assured that you will have an interesting one.

Architects are known to be people that are conscious of their environments, they know when a cityscape is lacking an essential element, when the landscape is bad and when there is lack of symmetry in an array of buildings. When travelling with an architect, you can be sure that you will not get bored as he will constantly show you beautiful scenes you never thought existed in such city or town. When he sees an ugly environment, he will point to you what could have been added to make it look better. To an architect, a highway is a museum of buildings where he enjoy talking about architecture, history, arts, poetry and so on.

A vacation with an architect is like heaven on earth.

Since they are the ones that designs beautiful buildings, towns and cities, they know the best place to find the right center for vacation. He will take you to places that are inspired by nature creativity, places that have hidden beauty and untold elegance. He will show you things during vacation that you wouldn’t have thought of and those things will make you appreciate life. At the end of the vacation, before you asked, he would have collated beautiful pictures, sketches and inspired design to show you later.

You are covered on any art, craft or DIY projects that relates to architecture.

Are you someone that love to create do it yourself stuffs like family picture frames, mini furniture, decorative arts e.t.c?, if you are such person and you have an architect as a lover or friend, you can be sure you need not to worry about DIY stuffs because he will help you with many ideas on them because architects love to create beautiful things for themselves, their loved ones and people in need of it. He has design tools with him always to make any DIY project come alive.

By default, you have other interesting friends though they may be architects too.

It is a common thing that architects are always found in architects company. They are fond of attracting architecture friends and other great and interesting people easily. Though conversation with an architect may be too brainstorming than being fun but you can be sure you will never get bored and at the end of the conversation, you might have garnered little knowledge about how buildings work which can help you in building maintenance.

Architect spend more time doing stuffs but still remain great lovers.

An architect rarely have excess time to spend outside his or her work but little time spent with people most especially loved ones are always cherished moments. They will amuse you with jokes, tell you boring stories in a creative way and you will end up laughing. They are people you can understand easily, they can settle any emotional dispute creatively and make environment lively. The same passion they put into their work is also applicable to treating people around them. You will surely feel loved by someone who is not just passionate about works but also passionate about people around them.

DESIGN TIPS FOR YOUR HOME: 5 TIPS THAT CAN ENHANCE ANY BEDROOM SPACE.

One of the things that characterized a good home design is having a well planned, usable, comfortable and enhanced interior spaces because people spend more time inside than outside. Well planned and beautiful interior spaces make life better so, designing your home to have better interior spaces is of great necessity and requires knowing some basic tips that can enhance interior spaces in buildings.

For the purpose of this post, I will explain tips that can enhance any bedroom space.

1.   Have a standard Interior space.

This is one of the major things to do to have a better bedroom space and it involve telling your architect to use standard dimension when designing your home floor plan, for example, using minimum space dimension of 24ft x 24ft or 7200mm x 7200mm or 7.2m x 7.2m or any value divisible by 3, this will enable interior elements to fit in properly into the planned spaces because most of the interior elements are dimensioned in multiple of 3.

2.   Use the right color.

Once you have a standard interior space with a well layout plan of how to arrange interior elements, one of the major things that should be your concern is kind of color that will produce best feelings. If you have ever thought of creating an interior space where you feel okay every time you stay indoor,   Then you have to think of how to use color creatively. Using the right color, you must first input your type of color and then try to blend other accommodating color that will supplement the beauty of the space. You can also create an ascent wall to have striking wall feeling.

3.  Make use of wall papers.

One other thing that will give your bedroom a special effect is wallpapers. One of cautions about use of wallpaper is choose rightly when deciding the type of wall paper to use in order not to mar the bedroom space you're trying to beautify.

4. Make use of right floor finish.

Are you lover of wood or tiles? Or you prefer other floor material, the main thing is choose the best that suit your bedroom. The one that you love and will help make your bedroom space more usable.

5. Use the right artworks and give them creative arrangement.

Using the right artwork will not only give your bedroom the elegant look, it will also make you feel connected to your bedroom space every time you are inside it because human eyes were designed to yell for beautiful things, so, when you have the right artwork in your bedroom, you will be able to feed your eyes with beautiful things Also, the way artworks are arranged is important because it can enhance bedroom space. As for me, when arranging artworks, I  love working with odd numbers, you might also try it and see if it will be okay.

Have other tips that could help bring out the best out of a bedroom space? Please feel free to share with us under comment.

TOP 5 REASONS WHY YOU NEED AN ARCHITECT

Architecture is a great profession, it is undoubtedly one that is needed in every facet of life. This is because Architecture meets human needs and create sustainable solutions to the needs of the world. But as interesting an architectural piece could be, the time, efforts and resources invested in each project is often underestimated and people do become obscured to reasons why architects are greatly important for their building project.

Many do ask the question "why do i need an Architect?" Answering the question, one need to go back to the age of civilization, where master builders now called architects started playing the major role in shaping the world, history and fostering relationships between people with their design to see the level of importance placed on architect then. Coming to nowadays, people often praise architects designs but still fail greatly to see the high level of importance needed to be placed on Architects in order to encourage them make the world a better place through their designs.

In today's post, we will consider top 5 reasons why you still need an architect for your design no matter what.

1. Architects understand what the clients want.
The first person that understand the desires of a client for a project is an architect, he knows where to put design elements to bring out solution that is efficient enough for the client's need and he knows where to get every stuffs needed to create a master piece.

2. You will be rest assured you have someone you can hold responsible if things go wrong
Since you have employed an Architect for your design work, you can be rest assured of results and when you do not get the required results, you surely know there is someone you can hold responsible so there will be no need to panic over anything concerning your drawings or the completed structure.

3. Architect will keep your contractor honest and keep a check on site workers and others.
No matter  the lay experience you have about designs or construction, there is no way you can effectively keep your contractors and site workers on constant check, it will be tiring. So, when you give out your design and construction project to an architect, you have someone who will do everything possible to enable everyone deliver the expected result.

4, Architects understand other professionals, experts  and major role player needed for a successful project.
He is very good in collaborating and working with others as a team. He believes collaboration is the sole of creative and successful project.

5. He is master of details
His sense of details will guarantee you a job well done. He understand that the beauty of a project lies in the hidden and unnoticeable detail in the work and how to handle those details perfectly to bring out the best. With an architect on site, you can be sure of going to bed all night without having to think of anything going wrong on your site.

AUGMENTED REALITY AND ARCHITECTURE: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW.

Augmented reality offers the opportunity of superimposing computer-generated image on a real-world environment of a viewer thus allowing both the computer generated image and the real world environment  to be viewed as purely a single entity.

Augmented reality is done in real time and semantic context with environmental elements such as in sports scores on TV during a match. Augmented reality give room for digital manipulation  of the real world and real time interaction between the computer generated image and the real world. (wikipedia)

Augmented reality cut across many fields and profession and its application are numerous. For augmented reality to be possible, its hardware are to be put in place which are; processors, display, sensors and input devices.

How augmented reality relate to architecture and the purpose it serves in Architecture?

In architecture, augmented reality offers the opportunity of merging a 3D image of a proposed project  in order to be integrated into its site where it will be built to ensure complemented sight seeing, this can allow you to view a building exterior while it is superimposed on its site in a way that you can see through the exterior and get to feel the interior spaces and layout including all its objects.

To understand augmented reality in architecture in a plain language, think of you being inside the environment of your favorite video game as if you are inside your t.v screen while you are still so much behind your T.V screen and holding the game pads inside your room.

Augmented reality can be used during presentations to enable the proposed project 3D or animated design to be viewed on its site as if it is being constructed in real time. This can be shown to clients to enable them see how the construction will be carried out on site through the animated sequence or images displayed in real time. This will allow the client and the viewer to have the opportunity of seeing their projects come alive even before it will be built.

There are lots of apps that enables architects to use Augmented reality, in the next post, we will talk about those apps and where to download them.

So, if augmented reality is good for architecture, why are architects still slow in embracing it?
Augmented reality has not been fully integrated and blended into architecture design work flow, it has not been fully developed to enable architects access it from their existing design tools without the stress of changing their work flow. For architects to embrace augmented reality more, it has to become a design tool flexible enough to be used within the existing design tools.

WHY AN ARCHITECT SHOULD SUPERVISE A BUILDING PROJECT.

When embarking on a new project, one of the hardest decisions to make is choosing who will supervise the project, the success or failure of any building project depends mostly on project management and supervision. When a building project is effectively supervised, all roles coordinated and all actors managed effectively, there is high tendency for success in such project and when it is done otherwise, the reverse might be the case.

In lieu of this, it means the person who supervise a building project plays a great role in determining the level of success of such project. So, the question is who should supervise your building project in order to record optimum success?

Supervision should not be confused to be management as both are two different things. In today's article, our concern is about who should supervise your building project.

Supervision is defined as directing people at work in order to play their roles effectively. So, talking about who should supervise a building project, majority of project owners or clients do have problem deciding the best but the truth is not far fetched, the main person you need to get an effective supervision for your building project is AN ARCHITECT, this is because the building designs originates from him and he is the one that understand best how he want the building to to look like right from the stage of conceptualization minding your own inputs as clients. So, why should an architect supervise a building project?

REASONS WHY AN ARCHITECT SHOULD SUPERVISE YOUR BUILDING PROJECT.

1.   He is jack of all trades but MASTER of designs.

Architecture cut across all fields so, an architect understand little about most trades outside architecture and they have a way of making something great out of their knowledge in them.

2.   He understands the core idea (central idea) around which the project revolves.

Since he is the originator of the design, he knows the central idea that hold the design piece together and how to use such idea to create a whole from parts.

3.   He will protect his work and integrity on site thus protecting the interest of the client than anyone else.

An architect will go extra mile to protect his work and see his designs come alive during construction, with an architect on site, you can go to bed every night without having to stress yourself much on what will happen on site the next day.

4.   An architect will not stop at anything until the best is achieved.

He understand that good is certainly not good enough so he will not stop until best is being achieved.

5.   An architect will not compromise his sense of functionality and aesthetics for anything.

His sense of functionality and aesthetics and need to create a usable space for the user will not make him compromise anything to deliver less than what is expected.

6.   He understands that there is no Utopian design but there is surely a job well done so he will not get tired correcting workers on site till the best is achieved.

An architect knows that there is nothing like 100% perfect design but he sure understand that every work requires their own special treatment to have the best.

7.   The principle of designing for the user is so important to him during the phase of design and in construction.

He is not just an architect on paper, he also understand what is required to have the building constructed to suit the user's need.

So whenever you are stuck deciding who will deliver the best supervision for your building project, just remember the first choice; An Architect.

Have some other reasons you think we do not add, please feel free to add them under comment and let us know your thoughts on this article.

WHY ARCHITECTS DESERVE MORE PAY FROM CLIENTS

Receiving the pay an architect deserve has always been a problem in the construction industry, architects complain about being underpaid and there is a rare case of an architect being overpaid. But the truth is no matter how much an architect is offered for his services, you still can not pay him enough as a client. This has left many clients arguing the reasons why architects are supposed to be overly paid as most clients rarely see the optimum values that lies in each piece of

ARCHITECTURAL PRACTICE AND TECHNICAL TERMS

There are many things that make us professionals as architects; one of those things is technical terms used in Architecture instead of layman words. In one’s quest to appear more technical to clients and the other professionals, one need to be BRACED with more technical terms and be dedicated to learning them anew or repeating the learning process in order not to forget the ones you’ve learnt. Using technical terms in Architecture is essential as it will enrich one’s architectural practice in so many ways.

ORGANIC ARCHITECTURE AND ENVIRONMENTAL TERRORISM

ORGANIC ARCHITECTURE can be defined as an architectural philosophy that promotes harmony between human habitation and the natural world through design approaches that fully integrates man-made structures into its environment to become a unified whole. It is the kind of architecture that encourages harmonious living between man, man-made structure and the natural environment in other to create a functional and peaceful ecosystem.

In WRIGHT’S WORDS; “I’ll like to have a free architecture, I’d like to have architecture that belong where you see it standing as a grace to the landscape instead of a
disgrace”, one could say Organic Architecture simply means having building designs that complement the natural environment to create a perfect whole.

In Organic Architecture, a building creates a unified space that appears to grow naturally out of the ground and function like a cohesive organism where each part of the design relates to the whole.

Organic Architecture fully incorporate natural elements in a harmonious way into the building design thus bringing the building and the occupants closer to nature.

Organic Architecture goes beyond merely GREEN but also describes a way of thinking about design that transcends the common everyday buildings around us.

WHEN NATURE DRIVES DESIGN

Where else can an architect draw enough inspirations from? , where else can a designer perfect the marriage between form and functions if not from Mother Nature this is because we owe our greatest invention to nature and our future aspirations to her. Nature is powerful and to disregard its forces when planning our building is like leaving the essentials and treating the non essential. But when we allow nature to have its ways, we do not just design buildings, we have unique buildings that are not just caves or fortresses

MAKING MORE MONEY AS AN ARCHITECT

This post is basically for the up-and-coming architects who are not really making much presently in the field, it is not always an easy road to becoming a big architect and at the low level, the commonest thing is doing more and getting less, therefore it is a necessity to think of ways of making more money as an architect especially those ways that can still complement your architectural practice.
Most time, it is not necessary that the resources needed for you to fund your architectural career should come from architecture; it could come from other sources, so widen your imagination and put your other talents and ideas to work in order to make more money as an architect. To really do well as an architect, you need more money and that means you need to create more opportunity for yourself other than architecture.

FOOD FOR ARCHITECTS

Architecture needs no introduction as one of the most stressful profession; it is kind of a normal thing with architecture due to trying to meet up with deadlines and coming up with distinctive architectural piece. Architecture is stressful and not an easy profession and that is why architects are special and unique because we love to make the world better through our designs
even at the expense of our time and energy. Architects put passion before business so they do more than what they are paid for and in doing this, the work becomes more tedious and stressful but a good
