WHEN NATURE DRIVES DESIGN

Where else can an architect draw enough inspirations from? , where else can a designer perfect the marriage between form and functions if not from Mother Nature this is because we owe our greatest invention to nature and our future aspirations to her. Nature is powerful and to disregard its forces when planning our building is like leaving the essentials and treating the non essential.But when we allow nature to have its ways, we do not just design buildings, we have unique buildings that are not just caves or fortresses

against climate for

dwelling but beautiful frameworks for lives that make us open to nature thus protect us from it.

When nature drives design, the result we have is beauty perfected in functionality. They say there are no utopian designs but a design created with nature put into total consideration might not be one without a problem but one that would have got over all its problems that the only problem remaining would be that which is technically not a problem. When building design embraces nature, the extraordinary emerges, provision for shelter are borne out of close to nothing to create something, life itself rejoices and the hope for the future generations beam the more.

In what ways can nature helps in architectural designs?

Technically, in every phases of architectural design, nature must be made to have its ways as it tends to be so much relevant in all phases, from FORM, to FUNCTION, to THEME, BUILDING MATERIALS, e.t.c Nature must be made to permeate design in order to have unique, functional, sustainable, adaptable, and flexible structures.

When nature is made to have her ways, buildings are given their identity not in their ornaments alone but also in its timelessness, usefulness, purpose and function.

When nature speaks in design, structures that its users can relate with emerges, the users won’t be scared of forces of nature. The users not only feel protected but in sync with the basics of their existence, life within and outside of the building are greatly influenced and good social behavior can also emerges.

In a building where every elements of the design is at peace with nature, an architect would not have created a masterpiece but also a apiece that gives soul to a lifeless building and make it worthy of a beautiful framework co-existing with the users. The building not only becomes part of their life but also forms a LIFE in itself

Until we totally agree to let NATURE have its ways always in every piece of design, we will still have so manyCREATIVE PIECE SEEKING FULFILMENT, we will always end up designing buildings that are great but lack the right fulfillment for their greatness. We will always end up having buildings that passes out before their time, buildings that lack the sense of what I call “ULTIMATE CIVILIZATION – living in harmony with nature”. We will always have buildings that not only fail to fulfill their purpose of creation but have failed to stand before the future generations to teach them the path of RIGHT ARCHITECTURE.

If we are to have Architecture worthy to be called our own, our minds, spirits, souls and bodies must be opened to what nature has to teach and offer us.

There has been high calls from differs scholars for a need to reconnect with nature, this article is passing the same message in the same vein of Architects like ROBERT VENTURI, FRANK LLYOD WRIGHT, SURLIVAN, E.t.c

A lot of approaches to Architecture had been developed to cater for NATURE inspired designs, BIOMIMICRY, BIOPHILIA and ORGANIC ARCHITECTURE are major part of them.
